Andras Kaldor's recent book. Opera Houses of Europe, chronicled the architectural splendours of the opera lover's world. In this new book he crosses the atlantic to survey the no less splendid buildings of New York, concentrating on the period around the turn of the century. Forty buildings are illustrated and reproduced in colour with an interesting detail of each building added.
Each building is accompanied by a short history, and some with a personal reflection by New Yorkers and visitors to the city.
